I learned that I made it into the Opus Honor Choir for the 3rd year in a row back in October. I have done a blog about it and I will put it right here. If you haven't read that specific post, here is a general summary of what happened this year:
1. The bus left the school at 6:15. The bus took us to Iowa State in Ames where the honor choir took place.
2. All 180 manly men sang our hearts from 9:00 to 5:00 ( I am not even kidding.)
3. We sang in front of 3,000 people.
4. We got to be outside in our outfits when it was 20 degrees outside. ( I am surprised that I didn't get hypothermia!)
5. We got Opus 2014 T Shirts.
We got to Oelwein High School at 8:00 AM exactly. We went inside and got everything ready for the day. The East Band which was the band I was in started practice at 8:30. At 9:30, the East Band had chair placement and All State auditions. I ended up getting 8th chair which was pretty good for my part.
For lunch, we had Subway which was actually pretty good. Since we had a hour and a half lunch break, we had a good amount of free time. Thankfully, there was a gym and a track in the school pretty close to where we had lunch. I learned a rule that day which has become useful in my everyday life: Don't play knockout with volleyballs. They are hard to control and leak air faster than a farting camel. There were also a group of guys who brought some footballs and balls with them. So, naturally they were chucking them across the gym and making it into the basket every time. They were making 90 foot shots like crazy. I was awed.
After 3 more hours of rehearsal, it was time for the concert. We played and everyone enjoyed it. Then we drove for an hour on the way home. It was a great experience. One of my friends, William made it into 8th grade All State as lead Alto Saxaphone, so that was great news. One of our trumpet players got the stomach flu the day before, so he couldn't come which was a bummer. It was fun though.
